The Historic Dunbar Theatre sits just a few blocks from McClelland Inc. Once upon a time, the theater anchored the neighborhood. It was the only place African-Americans could see a movie in Wichita. Sadly, the building has been empty since 1963. In 2008, the building was nominated to the National Register of Historic Places. Work has been underway to restore the building as part of a much larger neighborhood revitalization plan. You can learn all about it here. Additionally, the Crown Uptown is hosting a music festival May 14th and 15th. The festival goal is to raise funds for the restoration. It’s going to be a wonderful celebration. You can get your tickets here.
